Bruce W. Murley

In October 2021, Mr. Bruce W. Murley was selected for the Senior Executive Service (SES) position of Port Director, for the Area Port of San Francisco.

As the Port Director for San Francisco, Mr. Murley directs and leads over 700 employees in Tactical, Trade, and Passenger Operations at San Francisco International Airport; the Oakland Seaport; Oakland International Airport; San Jose International Airport; and the outer ports of Fresno, Salt Lake City, Sacramento, Reno, and Eureka. Mr. Murley successfully led the Area Port of San Francisco’s efforts to address smuggling and trade violations effectively focusing enforcement throughout his AOR. Specifically, he directed outbound enforcement units in all operational environments to prioritize initiatives based on areas of concern identified in each area’s outbound assessments. He led trade enforcement operations specifically targeting the entry of products made with forced labor which encompass over 600 active withhold release orders including those identified under the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA).

Mr. Murley previously served as Port Director for the Area Port of Honolulu, overseeing operations, initiatives, and programs in Hawaii, Guam, and the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands. In addition, Mr. Murley led the establishment of ports of entry in Saipan, Tinian, and Rota, and the enforcement of U.S. Immigration Law at those locations.

Mr. Murley began his career in 1987 with the U.S. Customs Service in Eagle Pass, Texas. He has served in a variety of complex and demanding positions, including Senior Inspector, Supervisory CBP Officer, and Port Director at land, air, and seaports of entry.

Mr. Murley holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Regis University in Denver, Colorado. He is a 2016 graduate of the Department of Homeland Security SES Candidate Development Program, and the American University Key Leadership Program.
