Lieutenant Commander Farris is the Command Intelligence Officer at U.S. Coast Guard Sector San Francisco, California. Having assumed this role in May 2021, he directs action-oriented tactical intelligence collection and reporting, develops first order analysis to support indications and warning, and build relationships across a myriad of Federal, State, Local and Industry in alignment with Captain of the Port information needs and national requirements across a 236,000 nautical mile Area of Responsibility.
Previous assignments include Intelligence Resource Management at Coast Guard Headquarters, the U.S. Coast Guard GEOINT Detachment at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, the Intelligence Coordination Center 24/7 National Intelligence Watch and Strategic Briefing Team, and U.S. Coast Guard Sector San Juan, Puerto Rico Incident Management Division. Lieutenant Commander Farris’s awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Coast Guard Commendation Medal, Coast Guard Achievement Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, the National Intelligence Meritorious Unit Award, and many other unit and team awards.
Lieutenant Commander Farris graduated from the University of South Florida with a Bachelor of Arts in Geography with a special emphasis in Geographic Information Systems in 2011. He also earned a Master of Science and Technology Intelligence from the National Intelligence University in 2018 with a thesis on Intelligence Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Data Integration and completed Joint Professional Military Education in 2021.
