Michael Cribbs joined the GMCC in January 2025. After 31 years of service, Mr. Cribbs retired from the Coast Guard in September 2024 at the rank of CAPT. His final assignment in the Coast Guard was as Deputy Commander, Coast Guard Cyber Command.
CAPT Cribbs has extensive operational experience in maritime security and law enforcement, defense operations, search and rescue, and humanitarian assistance and disaster response. He is a career cutterman and served 12 years at sea in six Coast Guard Cutters including command of Coast Guard cutters PEA ISLAND (2002-2004), HARRIET LANE (2013-2015), and JOHN MIDGETT (2018-2020). He also served in a variety of staff assignments including Chief of the Coast Guard’s Office of Emerging Policy and Strategic Foresight, Deputy Director of the Chairman’s Action Group in the Office of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (OCJCS), the Coast Guard Senate Liaison Office, the Officer Assignments Branch, and the Coast Guard Office of Cutter Forces.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the United States Coast Guard Academy; a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois; and a Master of Arts in National Defense and Security Studies from the Naval War College. He completed a Military Fellowship at the Center for Strategic and International Studies and is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Rhode Island.
