Captain Tucker assumed command of Coast Guard Sector San Diego in June of 2025. As Sector Commander and Captain of the Port of San Diego, California, he is the senior Coast Guard Officer in the Southwest region of the United States. He is responsible for leading maritime operations to ensure the safety, security, law enforcement, and environmental protection from the U.S. – Mexico Maritime Border northward to Dana Point, CA, and east to the Colorado River, and inland navigable lakes of Arizona and southern areas of Utah and Nevada.

Prior to Sector San Diego, he served as the Deputy Commander at Sector Mobile, Alabama, where he was the alternate Captain of the Port, Federal Maritime Security Coordinator, Federal On-Scene Coordinator, and SAR Mission Coordinator for 18 subunits including 4 cutters, 6 stations, 5 aids-to-navigation teams, and a Marine Safety Detachment. His area of responsibility was from Gulfport, Mississippi to Big Bend, Florida.

Captain Tucker grew up in Ashland, NH and is a 1996 graduate of Virginia Tech, with a bachelor’s degree in Economics. He also holds a master’s degree in Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

After earning his degree from Virginia Tech, he enlisted in the Coast Guard in 1996 and was a graduate of boot camp class A-150; with his first unit being Station Gloucester, MA.

Captain Tucker became a qualified Aviation Maintenance Technician and was stationed at Air Station Clearwater in 1998 prior to attending Officer Candidate School in 2000. After becoming a commissioned officer, he began Naval Flight School in Pensacola, FL in 2001. Captain Tucker’s first tour as a pilot was at Air Station Miami in 2003, followed by an instructor tour at Coast Guard Aviation Training Center in Mobile, Alabama, training new aviators in the H65 and serving as the Standardization Officer for the fleet. After the ATC Mobile tour, Captain Tucker was the Aviation Budget Manager at the Office of Aviation Forces at Coast Guard Headquarters. He then returned to Mobile as Division Chief of the H65 Training Department in 2015. Captain Tucker returned to the operational fleet at Coast Guard Air Station Houston as the Executive Officer from 2018 to 2021. He was then assigned as the Chief of Field Support at Coast Guard Headquarters.

Captain Tucker has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, Coast Guard Commendation Medal, Coast Guard Achievement Medal, and Presidential Unit Commendation Award among many others. He was also appointed as an Honorary Chief in May of 2021.

Captain Tucker and his wife Lynne have two children, Hayden and Sydney.
