Captain Kevin J. McCloskey

Commanding Officer of Maritime Operations
Los Angeles Port Police

Captain Kevin McCloskey is the Commanding Officer of the Los Angeles Port Police Maritime Operations Division and the Unmanned Aerial Systems Unit.

The Port of Los Angeles is the nation’s busiest container port. The City of Los Angeles Harbor Department is the port authority that oversees and regulates the 7,500 acres of land and water that comprise the Port of Los Angeles. The Port of Los Angeles is a complex operating environment comprised of passenger and cargo terminals, including cruise, container, automobile, breakbulk, dry and liquid bulk, and warehouse facilities that manage billions of dollars’ worth of cargo each year. There are 15 recreational marinas with nearly 4,000 yachts, a beach, and other recreational facilities. Currently in the midst of a multi-year, $2.6 billion infrastructure investment program aimed at raising the bar for cargo efficiency, the Port is also focused on new technologies to enhance digital information flow throughout the supply chain. All of this is being accomplished while also accommodating movie and television productions, innovative environmental research and even competitive sailing events in world-class conditions.

Kevin believes strongly that the Port of Los Angeles is not just a landlord port, but one that strives to be a leader in setting standards of regulation and innovation that enhance the safety and security for our tenants, users, and community. Relationships with port partners and the community are key to success.

Kevin’s career in this complex operating environment has included Commanding Officer of the Policy, Research, and Discovery Unit, maritime patrol as a supervisor and coxswain, underwater operations as a diver, police field supervisor and manager. Kevin was recently selected to attend the highly sought after California Police Chief’s Executive Leadership Institute at the Drucker School of Management, Claremont Graduate University. Kevin holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and a Juris-Doctorate, a USGC Captain’s License, and is admitted to the State Bar of California.
